Rules and Regulations

Location:

 

-Online

-The contestants will be judged based solely on the submitted video recordings. 

-Selection process

   1. Each contestant will be pre-screened for their recordings by our jury members after the application is submitted.

   2. Contestants who survived pre-screening will be scored on different aspects such as understanding of characteristics of the song, tempo, rhythm, technique, dynamics, phrase, articulation, tone,  pedaling, bowing, tonguing, blowing, overall impression, a challenge in the selected repertoire and many more.

   3. Competition committee will collect scores from jury members, and list the top five by a score from each jury member's score sheet.

   4. From the list, jury members will finalize the top three prize winners from each instrumental category (piano, strings, and woodwinds)

   5. Top prize winners will be selected from each instrumental category (piano, strings, and woodwinds), and among the top prize winners, the jury will vote for the scholarship winner. If jury members cannot decide on one scholarship winner, then jury members will vote once more.

   6. If jury members come up with multiple top prizes and scholarship winners, the competition organizer will split the scholarship fund by the number of the selected winners and proceed to award.

-Jury members' decisions are final and cannot be modified or claimed after the results are posted.

-On submitted recordings and applications, personal opinions and scores from jury members will not be given (shared) before or after the competition results are announced.

-The application due date is December 31, 2023

-Winners from each category will be announced on this website.
 

Eligibility:


-The Artist Award Competition is open to piano, strings, and woodwinds from

Elementary division from age 6 to Mature Artist division, age up to 55.

 

The Standard:

 

-Despite the instruments, we are focused on discovering artists who have an exceptional ability to interpret music in such original ways. Stepping further from each artist's physical skills, the ability to bring out freshness and creativeness by interpreting repertoire will be heavily weighted by our renowned jury members from a variety of instrument fields.

 

-Winners from each category will be announced on this website. Please note that jury members are judging remotely from their locations. Judging, voting, and discussion via email, Zoom, or Google Meet will take extra time to make final decisions for each category. 

Age Groups (as of the Application Deadline): 

-Category A - Elementary School: age 6 to 11 
-Category B- Middle School: age 12 to 14 
-Category C - High School: age 15 to 18 
-Category D - College: age 18 to 24 
-Young Artists - age 18 to 30 

-Mature Artist - age 30 to 55

IAAC Category Mature Artist - $110

Requirements:

-Repertoire Selection is freely chosen by the performer.

-Repeated sections are NOT required to be performed.

-Category A - There should be one repertoire freely chosen by the performer and recorded for the competition. Submitted videos should represent the applicant’s best possible performance. The total time for all the performances combined must be less than 6 minutes.  If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence. Any form of composition with one soloist will be accepted, chamber music larger than a trio will not be accepted. 

-Category B - There should be one repertoire freely chosen by the performer and recorded for the competition. Submitted videos should represent the applicant’s best possible performance. The total time for all performances combined must be less than 6 minutes. If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence. Any form of composition with one soloist will be accepted, chamber music larger than a trio will not be accepted. 

 

-Category C - There should be one or more repertoire, presenting contrasting styles and periods, recorded for the competition. The total time for all performances combined must be less than 8 minutes. If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. Submitted videos should represent the applicant’s best possible performance. All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence. Any form of composition with one soloist will be accepted, chamber music larger than a trio will not be accepted. 

-Category D - There should be two or more contrasting repertoires, presenting contrasting styles and periods, recorded for the competition. The total time for all performances combined must be less than 10 minutes. If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. Submitted files should represent the applicant’s best possible performance. All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence. Any form of composition with one soloist will be accepted, chamber music larger than a trio will not be accepted. 

-Category E - There should be two or more contrasting repertoires, presenting contrasting styles and periods, recorded for the competition. The total time for all performances combined must be less than 15 minutes. If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. Submitted files should represent the applicant’s best possible performance. All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence. Any form of composition with one soloist will be accepted, chamber music larger than a trio will not be accepted. 

 

-Mature Artist Scholarships - There should be two or more contrasting repertoires, reflecting contrasting styles and periods, recorded for the competition. The total time for all performances combined must be less than 20 minutes. If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. Submitted files should represent the applicant’s best possible performance. All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence. Any form of composition with one soloist will be accepted, chamber music larger than a trio will not be accepted.  Mature Artist Scholarships category applicants must not have professional recording/concert contracts. Also, all Mature Artist Scholarships category applicants must include short writing about themselves that briefly explains their musical career after graduation from their last institute. Please do not submit your biography.


Additional Regulations

-The application is open to everyone of any nationality as long as the applicant meets category requirements.


-If the total duration of the submitted video(s) exceeds the time limits, jury members will listen up to whatever time limit is set for each category. This may result in skipping a certain portion of your submitted recordings. You may choose to submit certain movements from large repertoires to fit into the time limit. However, please do not send self-cut and edited recordings, videos longer than the time limit will not give any disadvantage to applicants.​

-If any applicant wishes to apply for more than one category (more than one instrument, or college category and young artists category if an applicant is 18 years old for example), make sure that the applicant submits one application for each category.


-Video recordings must be genuinely performed by applicants and may not be edited, and no sound or visual effects to be added.  To ensure that poor recording quality does not interfere with the jury’s ability to review the material, avoid distortion of the recorded file(s). You will not be penalized for the quality of your video, however, it is essential because jury members must see and hear and review each applicant with clarity.

 

-If there is any evidence of editing found on the video, the applicant will be disqualified. (evidence such as fast-forwarding that results in higher-pitched recording or unnaturally added reverb heard in a small recording environment.)
-Videos should be recorded no more than 18 months before the date of your submission.

-Videos should be available for watching online (YouTube or a similar video platfo
rm). 


-When you submit the Application Form, please include the full title and composer. Please do not forget to include video link/s of your performance.  

-If you submit YouTube links, be sure that your videos have the proper settings:
VIDEO MANAGER → videos → Basic Info → please choose "Public" or "Unlisted" instead of  "Private".

-All application submissions are final and cannot be modified after applying. All applicants are responsible for any error made while applying.

 

-By making your Submission, you assign all rights in any submitted media to the International Artist Award Competition, including granting permission to publicly display the Submission on its website, on YouTube, or on any other media platform. 

Applicants under 18 will have their parents electronically sign these rights through Accepted granting International Artist Award Competition.

Specifically, your Submission grants the International Artist Award Competition an irrevocable, paid-up, non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to use, publicly perform, display, reproduce, transmit, sublicense, and distribute in all media formats now known or hereafter created the Submission in connection with (1) the Competition and the promotion of the Competition; (2) the promotion of future iterations of the Competition; and (3) the promotion of the International Artist Award Competition in general.

Awards

  • Top prize winners from Category A, B, and C will receive a certificate and one scholarship winner from each category will be selected, (jury members will vote scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds) selected scholarship winner will receive  $300 USD

  • Top prize winners from Category D will receive a certificate, trophy, and one scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds will be selected,  (jury members will vote scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds) and the scholarship winner will receive $500 USD

  • Top prize winners from Category E will receive a certificate, trophy, and one scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds will be selected,  (jury members will vote scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds) and the scholarship winner will receive $1000 USD

  • The top prize winner of the Mature Artists Scholarship will receive a trophy and a scholarship one scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds will be selected,  (jury members will vote scholarship winner among piano, strings, and woodwinds) and the scholarship winner will receive $2000 USD

  • No prize transfer, assignment, or substitution by any Category Winner is permitted. Taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner.

  • Suppose jury members come up with multiple top prizes and scholarship winners. In that case, the competition committee will split the scholarship fund by the number of the selected winners and proceed to award.

  • Each winner must provide a correct valid address (in English form )to receive a certificate or trophy.

  • Each scholarship winner must provide a valid PayPal account to receive the scholarship.
